AutoLEX is toolkit to visualize and analyze automatically the rules governing language structure.
We attempt to do this by exploring the syntactic and/or semantic rules in the given language
What does it mean to explore syntactic rules in a language?
For instance, canonically rules governing agreement in a language are defined over syntactic features, where we have the following rule for Spanish: “subjects agree with their verbs on number”.
So for understanding morphology agreement in a language, we want to know answers to questions like `which word classes mark Gender' or more specific questions like 'which constructions in English show Person agreement'.
Specifically, here are the linnguistic questions we aim to address with this tool
Agreement: Under what conditions syntactic dependents agree with their heads?
Word Order: Under what conditions does the word order deviate from the dominant order ?
Case Marking: Under what conditions does a word take nominative case over accusative or ergative?
