Introduction to AutoLEX

  • AutoLEX is tool to visualize and analyze automatically extracted rules governing different language phenomena.
  • We attempt to do this by exploring syntactic rules in the given language
  • What does it mean to explore syntactic rules in a language?

  • For instance, canonically rules governing agreement in a language are defined over syntactic features, where we have the following rule for Spanish: “subjects agree with their verbs on number”. So for understanding morphology agreement in a language, we want to know answers to questions like `which word classes mark Gender' or more specific questions like 'which constructions in English show Person agreement'.
  • Another example would be understanding case assignment e.g. in most Greek constructions pronouns that are subjects of verb, are often in the Nominative case.
  • Through this tool, we attempt to understand such linguistic phenomena by answering such questions regarding language structure.
